Can rabbits eat dry toast?

I came across a debate on Facebook, basically a lady was feeding her bunny toast and a few people said it was bad. I'm just curious as loads of people said it is fine. Any ideas:wave:

It's not great for them, but I used to let Harry have little bits of homemade wholemeal dried out toast.

It was made without any salt in it and he had a good tummy, it never did him any harm but I doubt it was too good for him.

I wouldn't feed it, personally. Rabbits tend to eat too many grains as it is in their dried food, without adding bread.

Toast can be good for encouraging a bun to eat if he is poorly. It is also useful for putting meds in. I find mine will often nom a piece of toast when they refuse anything else. I usually buy the cheap white bread, but if I have a bun who needs to be tempted to eat, I will buy the granary or wholemeal bread and sometimes the bun lets me share it with him or her;)

I once saw a rabbit specialist that told me to feed cheerios, she said at that point absolutely anything was preferable to nothing :D

My vet suggested shreedies for meds cos it soaks it up well, its always worked for us, 2 shreddies did a full dose of metacam

I have given little bits of crusts to Fidget but not regularly. She loves little bits of Ryvita too. I certainly wouldn't give it regularly. In fact, I can't remember the last time. I have so many veggies and herbs in the fridge that I'd sooner feed.

She'll only have metacam if it's mushed up in banana at the moment though. Fortunately she has a really good tummy and isn't prone to weight gain otherwise she'd be morbidly obese by now.

I've been at that point in the past with buns - anything they would eat that wouldn't actually poison them was tried as I was so desperate. I've also given buns who are 'on borrowed time' food that isn't particularly recommended if it's something they have really enjoyed and I know every day with them is a bonus.

Well all 5 of my 'special needs' house bunnies enjoy a small piece of toast Sunday mornings, it's just a little treat for them and they all go MAD for it, even trying to steal each others, so I have to supervise them   They are all brilliant hay eaters, have a small amount of pellets, lots of fresh stuff daily, but I don't feed any other bunny treats as such though. They all have good teeth, and no one has ever had a poorly tummy. I know it sounds silly but I just love doing their toast Sundays, and seeing them go so mad for it, and it is just so funny and lovely to watch. I will try and get a video this weekend and post it and you will see what I mean.

I did speak to my bunny vet about it, and he said that as long as it was only once a week, and in view of how lots of people feed their buns things like chocolate biscuits or worse, that it wouldn't do them any harm and as they are all 'special needs' as well wouldn't hurt giving them a bit extra of the 'feel good factor' :D :D

My Grimmy bunny gets a slice of white bread almost every day now. He is on borrowed time and doesn't have much left. It's one of the only things left in life that he enjoys. He was miserable, didn't move much and eas losing weight (500g), so I started giving him his bread and he's like a different bunny. He goes mad for it and it's brought him back to life. :)

I don't think there's much wrong with a little bit of toast. Charcoal on burnt toast is good for an upset stomach too.

Things like that mean so much though don't they, and if it is something that he enjoys so much, why not :D
