  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Where do you all get your meds from?

As this is the first time that either bun has been poorly I had absolutely nothing in that was suitable for Rascal's problem but I was thinking that I'll keep some infacol and recovery sachets in from now on ........ but where do you get your bunny zantac and metacam etc from??

Do you have it left over from previous prescriptions or can you buy it privately?

Thanks x

You can't get either without a prescription.

More importantly gut stimulants shouldn't be administered without a vet check as if there was a blockage they can do more harm than good.

Some RU members may have special allowances from their vet if they have a bun with reoccuring issues, My vets sometimes presribe me larger qtys than I need as with so many bunnys I am almost certain to need it again at some point, and it is cheaper for me and less fuss for them to measure out, but I never administer it without phoning them first.

Same with me - I always have a supply as my foster bun has daily metacam, but if any other bun needs any I always phone/see my vet to check the dosage.

As already said, prescriptions are needed for metcam, zantac etc. But for critical care and lots of other useful things have a look on the websites of The Hay Experts, Galen's Garden and the third one I think is called Willow Warren. Lots of healthy things for the buns.

Best of luck.:thumb:
