  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

what causes diarrhea?

Do you mean diarrhoea or a loose caecal/faecal?

If the latter, dietary normally, due a misbalance of 'good' bacteria in the gut. Also certain meds, if on any.

If the first, emergency vets, in an emergency, eg, now.

As graham said (I think, seems to read wrong way round to me!)

If it is just a very runny Cecal, then it could be diet based but I would still contact a vet.

If it is true diarreah aka, faecal poop being passed as a liquid then it is an emergancy and needs vets now!

(Hope it is the first)

yes i think its a runnny cecall (sorry spelling is really bad today!) she just did one and i trod in it:oops:

she has been on meds which she only takes with banana so im thinking i will try and get it down her without the banana instead as it might be upsetting her? will keep an extra eye on her anyway.

i didnt get a pic as mum had just got in so i quickly swept it up!!!!

Yes, I think banana is very 'rich'. Could you try her meds on a tiny piece of bread or on a basil leaf, which I find usually work.
