To those who use automatic refilling water dispensers...

I've got one of them too but never used it as was too worried Hopscotch would just push it over

I have one similar (http://www.petsathome.com/shop/smar...in-for-cats-and-dogs-by-fed-and-watered-13758) which is great but when it runs low the suction or pressure or whatever it is fails and the water goes all over the floor

Yeah I saw a few amazon reviews saying the same thing so I think I'll avoid that one! Although, how empty does it need to get before that happens? N&T don't drink a lot. Can you fill it from the top while it's sitting normally? Since in some designs that'd mess up the suction and cause it to go everywhere, but is it designed to be able to be filled like that?

 plops!

What brand do you use? I'm thinking of getting http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trixie-2476...342106&sr=8-1&keywords=trixie+water+dispenser, anyone know if it's any good?

I'd really like one that you can refill from the top rather than having to flip it over etc. Any suggestions?

I have one of these, you do have to flip it over when filling it. It doesn't hold a huge amount of water though. My bunny hasn't managed to knock it over yet, and he is very prone to picking things up and chucking them around, like litter trays !

That's great to know yours hasn't knocked it over! Mine don't throw stuff but they do run head-first into things...! The trixie one does look less knock-able. I don't mind that it doesn't hold a huge amount of water to be honest, as they don't seem to ever drink from their bowl. Does it ever have problems with leaking if it gets too low on water, etc?

Not no spillages yet, the only time there was a bit of water next to it was because Benni stepped in it by accident and made a big splash!

 N&T do that a lot! When I'm taking too long giving pellets I get the usual running around in circles and inevitably one of them stands in it! Then they flick themselves and everything else gets wet too

The trixie one looks good but I really quite want a top filling one :( Although I understand that due to the mechanism of it I might not be able to find one that fits the bill!

I've got one of these ones, it's not very good imo. It's quite lightweight and it leaks a lot. I've got a couple of bigger ones which I got from argos I think, they are much better. This one is by far the trickiest and leakiest.

I don't think you'll find one you can fill from the top because the water stays in by vacuum/displacement so if the top wasn't completely sealed, it would all just leak out the bottom.

I don't think you can get top filling ones as already said. But I think that is good, I've had a couple of them and I have always needed to clean the bowl out pretty much daily anyway as the fur and stuff just settles on top  if I had a top filling one I'd prob be lazy and not wash it out so often as I'd fill it in situ  having to take it to the sink daily kept the water fresh and the bowl clean! :thumb:

I had one of those for a short time and the only advantage over a bowl was the lack of spillage when carrying. The water needed changing and bowl cleaning just as often as a normal bowl (many, many times a day with my lot ) and I still ended up with water everywhere.

This one is top filling, but it must be enormous  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kerbl-Maya-...367520545&sr=8-5&keywords=pet+water+dispenser

And another one here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kruuse-Maya-Water-Dispenser-Blue/dp/B0030NLLWU/ref=pd_cp_petsupplies_1 So actually it looks like it is possible to get top fillers, although I don't know how well they work.

Mine are quite big, which is helpful as it makes them heavy, and it also means that if you're in a hurry, you can clean them by giving the bowl a swish round with your hand to wipe away any marks, tipping the water away, then letting a bit more water run in to rinse it, before putting it back in again. The big container means that at least you don't have to bring the whole thing indoors to clean it every time.

I'll post you both the ones I've got if you want? They're not being used and you can at least see what they're like!

I use one very similar & it's in the corner of the playhouse (so 2 sides are against walls). It's also on rubber matting. It's been knocked over twice in about 4 years, but there's another bowl available & a bottle in the run so they wouldn't go without:D

Maia had one of those but she would always knock it over.
Yes, there are top-filling ones! They work rather well, too.

Type 1: http://www.coniglioshop.it/prodotti/ciotole-beverini/beverino-azzurro-trixie-500ml.html This one is from Trixie, which I think is a German brand that exports to all Europe.

Type 2: http://www.perbaffo.it/Dettaglio-Prodotto.aspx?Prodotto=561 This one is from IMAC. No idea about distribution.

Type 3: http://www.ideas4rabbits.co.uk/Home/Accessories/RabbitWaterBottle1000ml.aspx

Etc.

There are several other kinds, all you have to do is Google and they pop up. :)
