  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit had a dental operation yesterday... is this normal?

Hiya!

Chino had his first dental yesterday and everything went really well. They put him under anesthetic and filed down his back teeth.
He got home last night and the first thing he did was stuff his face:lol:! I've never seen him eat so much!
He's been pooping often too which is obviously a good sign. :D

The only question is, since he got home he's been drinking constantly! Literally every time i go over to him he is drinking.
Is this a normal thing, to be so thirsty after a dental?

Sounds like he is doing well if he is eating well. I always try to get mine to drink more water to help flush the GA out of their system. Not sure if it is "normal" but if it continues it would be best to check with your vet as excessive drinking can be an indication of other issues.

If ever in any doubt, I would always contact my vet for their opinion.

ETA - just thinking if he has been eating more hay than usual it would probably increase his water intake (mine tend to drink more water if they eat more hay)
