What is an ideal age to get a male bunny neutered?

Young Bun

As in the title I'm wondering what you guys consider as an ideal age to neuter a male bunny? It's not an issue at the moment as my 2 youngest are only 9 weeks old but I like being prepared lol

I only ask because I had a young chinchilla once who a vet recommended on neutering so he could live with mom but he died shortly after having the op done and then the vet decided he was too young to neuter after all, needless to say I was heartbroken and never want that to happen again with any other furbaby :( thanks for advice in advance :)

bisc and matt were neutered at 14 weeks when bisc started getting his hormones! i think 12 weeks plus is ok for males, or after that when they start getting hormonal.

I would've thought as soon as the testicles drop, I've never had bucks though so can't give any real advice

If you've got two bucks together I'd say as soon as they're strong and healthy and their bits have dropped. You don't want to risk any fighting.

As long as you're confident you've got a rabbit-savvy vet, sounds like you had a horrid experience with your chinchilla, sorry to hear that :(

yes, this. i have two males, bisc and matt, so as soon as bisc started showing hormonal behaviour i took them to be neutered so they could stay together.

Thanks for all the advice I feel a little better now :) yes it was horrible as the vet I went to was meant to be an exotic specialist but obviously wasn't and I never went back to that vets after that :(

Will keep an eye on any behavioural changes with them, they are best buddies at the moment but I'm aware that could all change when they're hormones kick in!

Basically as soon as the testicles drop which is usually between 12-16 weeks. A vet would might recommend leaving a very small rabbit a little later.

My bucks were done at 12 weeks as soon as one began humping the other I booked them in. They did really well recovery wise and have not been seperated at all as I want them to remain bonded!

If they live together, they will need doing as soon as their testicles drop because male bunnies very quickly become hormonal and start fighting once this happens, and they can be impossible to rebond again once they've got to this point. I'm really sorry to hear about your chinchilla :( I wouldn't really draw any inference to bunnies though, bunny anaesthesia is pretty safe especially on young healthy bunnies and rescues routinely neuter boy bunnies as soon as their testicles drop.

Whereabouts in Essex are you? Have you found a vet you're happy with yet - there are a few of us on here dotted around Essex who might be able to recommend someone :D
