Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pebble's showing new symptoms of coughing :(

Yesterday I cancelled his scheduled GA for Friday as he had finally started eating carrot, cabbage and coriander after 3 weeks on metacam since dental. I thought we were making progress but unfortnately he has now started making coughing noises while eating and shaking his head violently so his ears flap.

I'm now concerned, because my vet did say that there was a possibility that Pebbles could have a problem with his throat (maybe tumor) that he may not be able to see (I don't think my vet has the facilities or equipment or expertise for throat problems) So I am going to call Trinity this morning (and my vet) to see about getting Pebbles in at Trinity asap.

Please can I have positive outcome vibes?????

Thanks

Oh dear :( Of course Pebbles can have vibes! (((((((((((((((((((Pebbles))))))))))))))))))))
I really hope it's something easily sorted. Poor bub.
(((((((((((((((((Strengthening hugs)))))))))))))))))))) for you too. xxxx

Only just got back! Mark has kept him in so I have to phone back at 3. He will be taking bloods, doing another x-ray to check for liver function/signs of infection etc., looking at his teeth/mouth and down his throat with an endoscope.

Just replied to your other post. Poor little Pebbles. Hope you get good results and Mark can make him well again.

I wonder if it's a similar noise to what Doughnut was making. She was making two noises, one was when it looked like she had reflux and it was a noise between a cough and like someone was going to throw up! She doesn't make that noise any more since her throat isn't infected any more but it was awful to hear. I just have to listen to the squelching noise at the moment when she bends over which I'm hoping will disappear soon.

I'm just repeating what I said in PM..

Mark just called me and said Pebbles has an enlarged heart which is pushing on his trachea and making him feel as though he has something in his throat , so he is being put on heart meds. Also a couple of minor spurs already, which he has dealt with. Also blood works show an infection...so he is keeping him overnight to see how he goes on heart medication, and once we have infection and heart under control, then we will consider removing the molars at a later date.

Also he said the roots of the teeth were elongated and pushing through jaw. My vet said x-rays showed no problem with the roots, and that there was "something around the heart" but didn't think it was related to his eating...just goes to show ...I thought my vet was pretty good but obviously it pays to see a specialist.

edited to say, I don't think it is the same noise..pebbles sounds like a cross between a little cough and a sneeze. He then shakes his head violently as if he thinks he has something stuck somewhere.

Thank goodness you have seen a specialist now, and Pebbles is going to be ok. I understand the heart issue is a worry, but there are lots of different meds available to manage it, and he was at much more risk with this not having been identified. I am so happy for you, that he is now with a really good bunny vet, who can give him the treatment he needs. Loads and loads of hugs and nose rubs to Pebbles please.

Im sorry to hear Pebbles is poorly, Im sending loads of vibes for him.
I hope with the mediation they can keep his heart stable, Bella did really well on Fortekor , I really hope Pebbles will respond well to the meds x

Thanks all...I'm really starting to miss my baby...first night without him in 2 years

I was actaully very surprised how quite it was at Trinity...

Oh dear, poor Pebs and poor you! :( I hope the medication will help him, he is such a gorgeous little guy.
Thinking of you and sending vibes and prayers for a good outcome. xxxx
