  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Catflap

on the bunnys shed there is a cat flap where they go go in there run whenever they want and i lock it at night but they a scratching a chewing wanting to be out but its stil cold around her about 2 deegrees at night do i let them out all night or do i keep them in i dotn know whatd for the best

Ours is open 24/7 as we had the same problem. I was worried about them hurting their heads as they kept head butting the door. As long as they have plenty warm bedding in their shed for them to retreat to if they want they should be fine.

in the winter when its cold do yo keep yours open

do they have a hutch or box or anything they can snuggle in? i fill a carrier with straw and leave that in there with the door off with a snugglesafe at night so they can sleep together in there for extra warmth

theres a large cat carrier i the filled to the top with hay and straw but they just wee in that instead of there litter trays

i read somewhere that bunnies are less likely to wee on straw than hay, so if you try just putting straw in they might not wee in it? it sounds ridiculous but it worked for mine!

Mine made their own catflap:evil:, they chew it to a slightly different shape daily:evil:

They are out in all temperatures and have been fine, sat in the aviary in the middle of the night watching the snow fall - I think my 2 may have very little brain power:lol:

Mine are the same. Ignore the snuggle safe and enjoy the frost. They love snow. I thonk they're pretty good at following instincts and will go in of they need too. Mine get amazingly thick fur over winter which i guess is why they do it. Moulting like crazy now thougj. Maybe they know something we don't?! I'm still freezing!
