Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lapizole E.Cuniculi

AEG1989

Young Bun
 One of my bunnies is currently recovering from E.Cuniculi so Is on a 28 day course of lapizole. My two other bunnies havn't been near him or his wee/poo but Im treating them to with the 28 day course just as a precaution. Once they are all treated does anyone know how long it protects them for? It doesn't say anything about re treating them in the leaflet surely a one off treatment can't protect them for life? I would perfer to use the lapizole again rather that the panacur rabbit as the bunnies hate it and I find the lapizole much easier to adminster. Also what would be the best thing to clean the hutch and run with? I've read about using bleach would that be safe? Thanks :D

During the 28 day course of panacur (the rabbit one is palatable, my 3 eat it no problem on a bit of veg) you need to do a 10% bleach clean on days 21 and 28, this breaks the cycle of reinfection.

Unless bun is reinfected by sharing space etc with infected buns (when they go boarding or you introduce a new bun) then the numbers stay low.

It is advised to do another 28 day panacur course after boarding, and to Panacur new buns before they share space.
