  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Meds after dental

Woody had his dental on Wed - how long should I keep up the metacam and Zantac,

He seems absolutely fine now - I am inclined to stop?

What did the Vet advise ?

Each case is different and there will be no 'one size fits all' answer to your question. I'd call the Vet who actually treated Woody and ask him/her for advice :)

Hi Jane,

When I went to collect him the nurse spoke to me and she didn't advise a time-span.
I will give the vet a call and get some advice :D

It depends if he has any root pain.
Has he had an x-ray to determine the extent if any of root overgrowth?

My cousins bun (poor wee guy) has quite bad root elongation, and is on daily metacam now to control the pain.
It is a very small dose as we've been reducing it gradually to see the lowest he needs to cope with his sore teefs.

Hows bunny doing :)?

I called and they said to continue the meds until tomorrow when he has a check-up. I won't know the full results of the dental/scan until then!

Good luck with the results. Doughnut is on 0.2ml of metacam twice a day and I know whenever I've been told to stop it I've had to reduce it first to once a day for a week. I don't think it's good to just suddenly stop, better to reduce it down. Also Woody may be OK because he is on it if that makes sense!

Sure you will find out more tomorrow. Bet you're pleased it's all over with.
