Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Advice on clipping nails (giant conti)

As most will know, my giant bun is everything to me. Due to her sore hock (which have near enough healed) she hasn't been outside since we have got her. Her nails are now getting longer, and I wondered whether people have clipped their buns nails themselves before? I've never had to do it to any of my others due to them spending time outside to and them being filed down by digging and running about. Or should I take her and get a vet to clip them a little? She's extremely well behaved, but I just don't want to catch her and cause her pain.

Advice would be appreciated :)

P.s when we got her, the vet trimmed them for us. As we took her straight to be seen. And our local vet who comes over to check her and kits hasn't been around this week. :)

If you are not confident doing it I would definitely get your vet to do it.
If you tell them it's just for nail clipping the nurse might do it for you too.

I am confident-ish. I think I'll take her to the vet again, and get them to show me how to do it properly. As she is getting older and I don't want to over stress her in the car. But it can wait a few weeks, as I don't Want to move her just yet.
Thanks for the advice :)
