  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Jasmines breathing is bad again!!

I havnt been on for a while as thankfully Jake and Jasmine have both been in good health. A couple of days ago though Jasmine started breathing heavily again. In December 2011 she had exactly the same thing. Steroids didnt seem to work. Eventually after a second course of antibiotics and a course of panacur she started to get better. This was after I had been told she probably had cancer and watching her lose weight over a couple of months.
I took her to the vet on Thursday and she dosnt have a temperature so he dosnt feel the need to treat her with antbiotics. He said he can hear something on her lungs and her breathing is laboured and gave her a steroid (!!) injection as he thinks its like an asthma type thing. I dont think the steroid injection has done anything. I've started her and Jake on the panacur - just incase. Though I dont see how worms could make her have trouble breathing. And shes on bisolvon which is a bronchial mucholytic?
The other thing the vet said sould be to give her an xray of her lungs to see how they are working - but worried about sedating her.
Just dont know what to do :-(

Oh dear. Only just seen this. How is she now? I definitely think you need to find a vet much more experienced with rabbits. What a terrible thing to have said about the cancer, and what, then done nothing about it.
