Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Specialist vet in South Yorkshire?

Hi

Please can anyone recommend a specialist bunny vet in South Yorkshire? I am in Sheffield.
I've always taken my bunnies to my local vet who is nice but after reading all the info on here I'm wondering if there is a more specialist vet nearby.

Thanks :)

There's Francis Harcourt Brown in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, though that would be a bit of a trek. We see a local vet for routine stuff and he refers us to FHB for anything specialist (such as complex dentals). We try to balance our own vets competence and scope versus the stress of the additional travel to FHB, so our vet checks her teeth and will do routine dental work but when her teeth get really bad we go to FHB.

Is Worksop too far away? I've just been to Wildbores there which is just by Bassetlaw Hospital, its Tracy on here's recommendation that got me there. (I'm sure she won't mind passing on her info..hopefully!!) They've looked after her bunnies for years, treated 3 of hers when they were v poorly and they're all fine and dandy, the vets sound amazing. They're open 7 days a week which is handy and their premises are huge. :thumb:

I saw someone post a vet in Sheffield yesterday At high green I can't remember who it was now but I'm sure they said it was abbey vets I would ring up and ask if they have either a rabbit savvy vet or exotics vet :)

Yes I'd recommend Wildbore's in Worksop. I've been going there with my rabbits and cats for 7 years.

They have got a few of my bunnies through some very serious illnesses. On Monday of this week Hanna did the hind leg amputation of the injured cardboard box bunny (the two bunnies that were dumped in a cardboard box outside Kirkby rescue on a cold snowy night, one of which had part of her hind leg missing). She's done a marvellous job with her.

They are not rabbit specialists, not in the way that Frances Harcourt Brown is, but they are very good and knowledgeable with rabbits. :thumb: If it is something that is beyond their expertise that really does need a rabbit specialist, then they would do a referal to FHB, which is what they did for me when they needed an expert's opinion on my Herbie's worsening dental issues.

Thanks all, I'll look in to all of those. Although some of them are quite far away it's good to know that there are places we could go in an emergency. :)

Hi Peak Vets on Olivet rd, Woodseats Sheffield are excellent with ALL animals they have bunny and piggy savvy vets. They also open late and at weekends an have a 24hr emergency service.
