Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Long haired buns and grooming!

My little foster Poppy is a fluff ball, well she is a lion lop but has long very thick areas of fur around her bum and on her dewlap.

She came into rescue in a bit of a state and whilst I've got her bum to stay clean now :p and groom her regularly I'm having a few problems.

In these thick long area of fluff it almost seems like the fur very close to the skin is matted and when I start brushing I can easily get a pile of fur out almost as big as she is  but she hates it, fairly understandably!!!

I'm not being harsh or heavy handed with the grooming and I use a bunny comb and slicker brush but because of where the problem area are its very hard to get to them and I have to manhandle her a bit just to get to them :( trancing her would make it easier but obviously I don't want to do that... It's not even like if I did trance her it would be a five minute job and then that would be that, it seems never ending!!!!!

How do you guys keep your long fluffed buns ok? Is it normal for her to have area that just seem prone to tangles?

My Double maned lionhead's worst area for this is just under his chin so not the easiest place to comb and is a magnet for hay getting stuck. I trim it back as much as I can but you can only do so much. I try to give him a quick comb on this area daily so that when I do his main grooming session its not so bad.
