  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My bun matilda is at the vets today to have her teeth filed and treatment for an abscess..any vibes will be much appreciated
Im really worried as this happened only back in september last year. Will she keep having to go through all of this?
I asked him if he could take the tooth out but he said as it is a molar it would be more diffficult and the chance is that it could cause spurs... So eitherway it is bad news? I hate to think she is in so much pain an abcess must hurt so much. Any of your experience will help alot thank you
Over the weekend i have been giving her 0.4ml of metacam a day and 0.8 ml of baytril too
Also i can't find my petplan papers but im pretty sure they have excluded this treatment after paying the first time so im so poor right now... I just want her to be ok and hope they will accept my claim :(

I don't know the answers to your questions, just wanted to say I hope the vet trip went well & that Matilda is ok :(

Oh dear, I am sorry to hear that.

Perhaps there are things you can do after that will stave off the abscesses? I'm thinking, echinacea to support the immune system, Manuka honey, propolis???

I hope bun recovers quickly

Also, I thought the petplan policy is cover for life so they aren't supposed to exclude things other than any problems the bun had before insurance commenced, I would argue that a returned abscess is 'ongoing'. I would submit the claim and see how you go.
