Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Can i use dog nail clippers on a rabbit?

Bunnie

Warren Scout
In july i am getting a bunny and i want to get everything as cheaply as possible, we already have a big doggy and she has doggy nail clippers my sister sujest using our dogs nail clippers on the rabbits nails. is this a good idea or not? (if i was to get rabbit nail clippers i would get the ones from wilkinsons is this a good product or do you guys give it bad reveiws?)

Also does a question about nail clippers actually count as a helth question?

You can, I have to on my dwarf/German lop as his nails are too thick. On my more dianthus rabbits small animal clippers are generally used. To be honest there's not really any difference!

I used normal human nail clippers on Bella and Woodys front nails and they were fine! I am going to get some proper animal ones though

I use the same big orange dog nail trimmers that I have from work on both my cats and my bunny. My bunny is big, so her nails are quite thick.but I also use these on baby kittens and whatever species I have to trim nails on.
