  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Has anyone had experience of this?

Male rabbits sometimes getting one runny eye due to an excess of male hormones when they're not used for breeding??

I would say there is no connection at all. I would recommend taking bunny to the vets to get the eye checked. It could just be there is something in it of it might be more serious like a tooth problem.

You could then also discuss castration for your bunny with the vet too x

As Hugo'sThere suggests, we've had buns with one runny eye which is an indication of dental issues - once a GA dental has been done the runny eye clears up by itself!

Yep it's normally a dental problem as their back molar teeth press on the eye from within. Definitely one for the vet to check out (front teeth may look fine but back teeth can be overgrown). go sooner rather than later as can turn into an abscess if left untreated and it's also painful.

Not heard of that, agree with the others. Stephen had one runny eye which just turned out to be a blocked tear duct and with a wifey bun she's kept it clean after an unsuccessful flush. Def go to the vets.
