  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
The past few days lola has had access cecals in her run and im just being panicky, shes is normally fed a big handful of pellets and unlimited hay and then at night i give her some veggies, ive cut down her veggies and she only has a tiny bit of broccili and loads more fresh hay at night, is there a reason for this? shes due to go the vets next week for her jabs too so will ask them

Shes about 7 and a half months old now :)

In that case you should be very gradually reducing her pellets to about an eggcupful a day (when they are younger they need more). You must do this slowly, though. Hay is the most important part of her diet - should be about 80% of her food - in order to keep her teeth and tum in good order. If she fills up on pellets she won't eat the hay she needs.

I think that if you make these gradual changes to her diet you should see an improvement.

It is good that you are going to the vet anyway - but if you are at all worried I would make an earlier appointment.

Each day im giving her a few less pellets how ever i think she needs to put on some weight too so its hard, i will just keep to the hay for now and give the veggies a miss, will give the vets a call tomorow and try for an earlier appointment :)
