Fifibutton
Wise Old Thumper
Mona my almost 11 year old bunny has glaucoma in one eye. Due to recent events in my life I have not seen her for a bout 10 days but she has received stellar care from my parents. I've just managed to see her today and her glaucoma eye is now white as you see in the picture below. I am pretty sure that means she has gone blind. My dad said the eye changed colour within two to three days at most, it was very fast. He phoned the vet who felt it wasn't an emergency as she wasn't in pain. So far so ok. She is acting normal, eating, playing and manages to get about fine with one good eye. My concern is that the eyeball looks bigger to me and it feels bigger when I stroke her head I can feel it bulging slightly. She has had a hole in her iris for years in case you wondered what the mass below the main part of the iris is. Also she has been getting trusopt eyedrops for months every day which were supposed to alleviate any growth and pain and until now they have worked.
She is now booked in for a consult tomorrow morning. In the meantime she again seems happy, calm, very affectionate and shows no signs of pain.
My concern is that they eyeball will continue to grow and the only outcome will be eye removal. She is very old and might not survive an op. I know it is down to the vet's discretion and I think he will operate with my consent although I know there will be a greater risk given her age. But I think for Mona's sake the risk has to be taken.
I am also concerned it could be a tumor although I think it more likely to be related to the glaucoma. I wondered if anyone has experienced a similar situation or has any one eye rabbits (how do they cope) and could generally give advice please.
