  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Stringy beaded poos

My little lionhead cross has been doing stringy poos for at least two weeks now. She is still eating her pellets and has access too and eats as much grass as she wants. She also has rose braches to chew and veg etc. The vet checked her over last week and couldn't feel any impaction and she is doing the same volume of poo they are just all joined up in strings. I've asked for some advice from the vet and they are going to do some research.

Harry is moulting at the moment and I think she grroms him quite a bit too.

How long is too long for these type of poos to go on for?

It's actually better that you are seeing them, rather than not, as it means that bunny is passing the fur through the gut, which suggests good gut transit. Thats actually awesome.

It can go on for weeks, sometimes months depending on the bunny and the season :)

They have one of those ikea bag holders that is always full of hay as well as their huge litter tray(was a lakeland oven shelf cleaning tray|) full of hay. I've not seen her eat hay though - branches, grass, ready grass, plantain, bramble, banana, cauliflower, broccoli etc etc but not hay.

The vet did say it was a good thing but it just seems to have gone on forever! Thank you little less worried now
