  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I have a nearly 4 year old lop eared rabbit who lives with her mum and castrated brothers after a surprise litter  anyway I really want to get her spayed as I know the odds of cancer increase as they reach 4 years old but I'm just do worried that something will happen to her while she's having the operation but then I don't want to lose her coz of cancer. Has anyone had an older rabbit spayed and did it go ok? I just need my mind putting to ease.

Hello, I had my bunny spayed at 3.5 years and I know some people on here have had much old buns spayed. As you say, the risk of uterine cancer is quite high with older buns so although there is always a risk with any operation I believe it is much less than the risk of cancer.

I will be getting my 3 year old done soon (I was told when I adopted her from a friend that she was done, it seems she's not ) and although I will be stressed on the day and during the recovery I know it's the best thing for her.
