Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Early molt, anything to be concerned about?

Young Bun
Just noticed this weekend that Boris' big molt has begun, with big clumps of hair coming away during a brush. For the last two years he's had one big molt, that began (and lasted weeks) much later in the year, about June/July time. Should I be concerned it's apparently begun earlier?

I've recently moved house and a few weeks before that changed his pellets from Excel to Science Select mature. Perhaps a silly question, but could either of these have triggered his molt?

My only worry is that he's an outdoor rabbit and it's only Feb, so we're bound to have a few more cold nights. I'll pack his hutch full of hay/straw more than normal in order to keep him warm.

All 3 of mine are moulting again too and they're indoors. I think it's normal as the light levels are increasing and the days a bit longer. :)
Packing his hutch on colder nights should be ok.

Have lots of moulting buns, it equals hair in my eyes everytime Im out with them, the horses are moulting also, though I thought it was a bit early, the cob is loosing loads!

Rolo lives indoors, he's having a huge moult at the moment, I'm worried he's going to end up bald!!!! :p

i wouldn't be worried. one of mine has started moulting in a big way and she is outdoors. the 2 nethies haven't but they never seem to moult as much as her anyway... white fluff everywhere sticking to everything!
