  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Possibly daft moulting question

J&R

Mama Doe
Fiver has starting moulting over the past couple of days and seems a bit subdued, not ill or in pain just not quite himself. Eating and pooing as normal.
I know my chickens get like that when they are moulting, do rabbits too? Or should I take him for a check up?

No idea, my indoor rabbits are currently beginning a bit of a moult .. makes me sneeze a lot! doesn't seem to bother them but they're lazy anyway.

Ok, I don't want to stress him with an unnecessary trip to the vets so perhaps just keep an eye on him

Harry used to be a bit subdued when he moulted, so keep it can happen but yes keep a very close eye on him.

Watch out too for him ingesting too much fur- Harry used to get the poos that were laced together with fur and there was always the risk his guts would slow.

Yeh, mine get quiet when moulting - especially fluffy Tia - I was told (can't remember where or who) that it can make them feel a bit 'fluey'.... as long as they're eating drinking and pooing i wouldn't stress with a vet visit x
