  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Fight & bitten ear

After 18 months together, with minor sqaubbles, my two females have had a massive fight last night. Poppy has a big chunk out of her ear, and the room is full of fur...I can't see any other cuts apart from a little nip on Poppy's nose. Going to take Poppy to vet to have her ear checked. Should I separate my quad back into pairs... they have only had occasion spats of fur pulling, and one occasion where poppy got nipped on her nose, but the fights are getting worse when they do happen.

Got vet appointment at 12:30, so should be able to get her pain relief and antibiotics to stop infection...anything else she may need from vet? I've never had a fight go this bad..I feel guilty as I heard them running about louder than normal, but was so tired, I couldn't wake myself up to go check on them.

I think you have made the right decision to separate them. The fights are very likely to get worse, especially with Spring approaching

Hope that there are no serious injuries xx

Poppy is now with Pebs (the most soppy docile one) having the run of the house, and she is munching hay no problems at all, and exploring, so she doesn't seem too bothered, but got appointment at 12:30 just to be on safe side. I've checked Chloe over...no obvious injuries apart from from patches of fur pulled. Such a shame to split them up, but I think it will be the best option...just don't know what starts it off :?
