  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Difficult rabbit... Bad coat condition, gas, caecotrophs... UD panacur help

Sapphire's coat has been losing condition about 3 weeks. I thought it was a moult to start with but the fur itself is less shiny and a bit frizzy instead of smooth? It's
Mostly the lower half of her back and a bit of her shoulder. No dandruff or sore bits that even a vet can see.

Lots is falling out too but she doesn't really like me grooming her

She's only had pellets and hay for a week now but she's doing really bad trumps and leaving I'd say 3 bunches of caecotrophs a day at least.

She's acting totally normal, humping her brother at dinner time, eating plenty of hay and pellets. Her poo is otherwise very good.

I just don't understand what could be happening??

Have you taken her to the Vets? I took on a bunny last year with poor coat condition etc and the Vet said with a rabbit like this always worm them and they should get their condition back. So I gave her Panacur for 9 days and she has improved. Maybe this would help your bun.

Hi -i dont know if any of you guys have ever heard of carrs natural improvers but they seem good i have used them but just to keep my bunnies in tip top condition so im not sure how they work for a poorly bun

Personally I would not be administering Panacur with no concrete evidence of a need to do so. It may be a treatment available Off Prescription but in my opinion using it does not come without risks, it is a drug after all.

I would take your Rabbit back to the Vets to discuss your continued concerns. The symptoms you describe all tie in with possible Dental problems. The poor fur in the places you mention, the uneaten cecotrophs. So I would ask the Vet AGAIN about Dental issues. Frenchies are prone to them after all.

Good luck
