Would anyone mind helping me figure out my rabbits breed?

Hi, I've never actually posted on a forum before so I have no idea if I'm using it correctly (I apologise in advance if I'm not) but I was wondering if anyone would mind helping me figure out what breed my rabbit is?

I'll introduce myself first so I don't come across as rude. My names Chels and my rabbit's name is Chief.

Me and my boyfriend adopted Chief when he was about four months old (possibly a little bit older, we're not sure how well they kept track of his age) and we've had him for nearly a year. The place we adopted him from didn't tell us his breed and I'm not gonna lie, Chief was quite an impulsive addition to our family (the best impulsive decision I've ever made, that I would never take back in a million years, no matter how much you paid me, I regret nothing) we didn't really think to ask them what he was. Over the last almost year we've become pretty certain that he's chinchilla coloured (with the help of a vet) and I'm also starting to think he's a mix breed. He's definitely part lop, I'm just not entirely sure what kind, though I think I've narrowed it down to part mini lop. He's a fairly big rabbit and the last time he was weighed (I think he might have put on weight since then) he was either pretty close to or above 4lbs. I'm sorry if this is confusing and I'm not being very helpful, he hasn't been weighed in a while and I haven't got the best memory. Hopefully the pictures will help narrow it down some. I'd really appreciate the help as I’ve been curious pretty much since we got him and it’s gonna bug me forever that I didn’t ask them if I don’t ever find out. Thank you in advance to any help given. :D

(The above picture is kinda old, it was taken I think pretty much the day we got him so he's around four months here and has definitely grown since then)

Aww I'm useless at stuff like this but have to say he is gorgeous!!!

Welcome to the forum, I'm peterbunny, otherwise known as Emma, and I'm proud bunny mummy to Peter who's 9 months old.

He definitely has chinchilla in him. I think you're probably right thinking he's a mix breed, I'm far from an expert though.

Welcome to you and Chief!

Is his tummy white? I was going to say a grey/silver agouti x lop...he definately has a lop face :love::love: is grey/silver agouti the same as chinchilla?

He is definitely chinchilla coloured but not necessarily pure chinchilla breed. He is such a beautiful silvery colour. Most rabbits are a dolly mixture of breeds though they can look like one pure breed. For example. I have a chinchilla boy but his brother looks like a Dutch bun and I know some of the kits in his litter were black. By the time I came to adopt them the parents had already been re-homed so I never knew what the parentage was but I'd love to know what the parents looked like as they basically had a rainbow litter :D With rabbits anything is possible.

I'd say a chinchilla lop cross to cover all bases.

Thank you, I'm obviously biased but of course I agree :D

Yes! His tummy is white. I see what you mean, they do look like Chief. Hmmm, I'm not sure if that's the same as chinchilla. Thank you so much for the help :D

Thank you, :D i adore his colouring, i think he's beautiful :D I think if I want to know for certain I'm gonna need to take him to a vets specialising in rabbits. A lop cross seems pretty appropriate though, thank you so much for the help. I would have loved to see those rabbits, an assortment of rabbits is the best kind :D

I keep looking up agouti's and the more I do, the more I'm convienced it's at least part of what Chief is. Thank you so much, I think you've figured out part of the mystery :D and you've made me super happy :D

4lbs is really quite small, small enough to be a mini or dwarf. My french lops are 10lbs each

Hmmm, I think I need to weigh him again, as he's quite a big rabbit. It's something people point out all the time, so I'm starting to think I could be wrong about his weight. I'm gonna try and weigh him again, coz I've asked my boyfriend and he thinks Chief weighs more then 4lbs, so I think I'm being a bit of a ditz right now. I'm sorry, I'm not being very helpful with me own dilema :?

Don't worry about it. Do weigh him again, on good scales if you can. 4lbs would be noticably small, maybe it's 4kg? These are my frenchies:

Sorry for the blurriness but you can see they're quite substanstial, is Chief the same sort of size?

I just weighed Chief and he's actually 6.8lbs so I was quite off there with his weight :D
Bit silly of me  Awww they're so sweet  They actually look quite similar in size, I'd say Chief's not too far off from them to be honest.

Ahh. Well then from my understanding he's probably just normal lop, not dwarf.

Looks are deceiving, they're little terrors!
