  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Alpha Buck
I use a bottle with a sippy tray rather than a nipple to save drippage

Ive had george about 6 months and I think hes about 2 1/2

Although hes slways drunk loads of water (nearly 500ml a day) and this hasnt changed... im concerned he has developed a wet tail and hind legs

Could this be excessive drinking and his bladder just cant keep up
Im tempted to switch to a regular bunny bottle as im sure this will reduce the amount he drinks

Will be a vet trip if doesnt clear up in a few days

I wouldn't reduce the amount he drinks if he wants it. Doughnut used to have the ball bottles but she got so frustrated as she couldn't get enough water out, she didn't get the hang of the sipper bottle so now she drinks out of a bowl. She drinks more now which is good for her gut.

Maybe your little one has a urine infection and with antibiotics this should clear up. I would take him to the vets. Reducing the amount of water he can drink is not a good idea as water helps with the digestion.

Personally I'd get him to the Vet tomorrow. The symptoms you describe point to a possible urinary tract/kidney problem. This could include a UTI, bladder sludge/stones, Kidney damage (possibly EC related).

I would definitely not restrict his water, if he has a kidney problem he could become gravely ill very quickly.

What's EC related?
Yes I can get out to a vets Tuesday so will take him then
Hes not down or subdued at all. Still bouncy but wet underneath
I wondered a uti too
