Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Soft fecal pellets

Buster's poos are always very large and crumbly as he eats so much hay. But I've noticed recently that they are slightly softer than they used to be. Twice now I have noticed a significant cecal type smell in the litter tray but no uneaten caecals. Could Panacur be the cause? He had his last dose today. Diet-wise he remains on 20g urinary tract formula pellets morning and evening, 3/4 bowl of veg/forage in afternoon (usually cucumber, celery, mint, basil, parsley, lemon balm, dandelion, plantain, raspberry leaves). Unlimited Timothy and rye hay. I plan to cut down the pellets slightly once he's put more weight on and we've (hopefully) successfully weaned him off his meds. He's still having Propalin and simeticone (Infacol) twice daily. Is it something I need to worry about? Anything I should do differently?xx

When he was poorly with the incontinence issues he was hunched and tooth grinding. I always noticed his stomach rumbling when he was in this position. So I started the Infacol and the tooth grinding stopped. So i just continued. My plan is to finish the Panacur and a week later start reducing the Propalin (the vet has given me instructions on this). I was then going to reduce the Infacol and hopefully stop it. Because we never got a definitive diagnosis, i really want to reduce his medication one by one as it may indicate where the problem lies x

Just noticed an uneaten (formed) cecal in litter tray. Hasn't had any since he was about 10 weeks old. Need to rethink diet...any suggestions?x
