  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Spitting out poo?

I was watching shooter( I know, stalkerish?) and he spat out 3 drops at once? He has food available as well as hay and water..should I be concerned?

When you say the round healthy ones, did Shooter pick them up from the ground? The reason I ask is because the more smelly ones, caecotrophs are usually collected directly from their anus and then eaten and digested. The dry round ones are the end result and not usually eaten but shouldn't cause any harm if they are.

So long as Shooter is eating, drinking, weeing, pooing and acting normally I wouldn't be worried. Obviously if this isn't the case then more information is needed. If in any doubt about Shooter's health, then a trip to the vet is always advisable.

My bun Billy is what I like to call an Eco-Rabbit, he recycles EVERYTHING. ;)

He likes to eat his waste drops far too often, but it's totally harmless. Some rabbits do it more then others, and some don't do it at all.
I like to think of it as chewing gum for rabbits :p

Buckley enjoys picking up his fecal droppings, chewing them, and sprinkling the remnants on the carpet. Means he can mark more territory per dropping. Sneaky bunny

Doughnut doesn't eat her fecal poop. When she was without her meds and her fecal was mixed with her cecotropes she would then spit the fecal out but otherwise she would never eat it. I think some rabbits do though.

Yes, shooter was cleaning himself!
He hasn't done it since... I don't think he likes recycling:p
