Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cheek Teeth Or Something Else?

Can i have your thoughts please?

A few days ago mum noticed one of her buns wasn't eating, just suddenly stopped and no poos. We thought the obvious thing was teeth so he went off to the vets. Her vet had a good check of teeth and couldnt see anthing but didnt rule out cheek teeth and said he had a bit of statis. He was given the usual metacam/metaclopromide/ranitine/ biolapis..

Back home Bun seemed bright and normal in his self but wasn't eating other the recovery. He went in the run and she disovered musucs but no poos.

Back at the vets on Friday, he was checked again by a different vets, and this one said Bun's tum seemed fine and again couldn't see anything teeth wise.

Saturday she saw her usual vet who said bun has a bit of soreness in the abdomen, blood tests were done but vet doesn't think its a blockage. He is to have an xray tomorrow, mum has some injectable meds along with the ones mentioned above. The vet did say he could admit him but as he seem very stressed he advised to take him home. Today Bun stilll seems bright and and just started to eat a bit of hay, and herbs.

This bun dd have an impaction about two years ago but other than that he's healthy. I still think it could be cheek teeth. Does anyone have any other ideas or adivce? Thanks

Did the Vet check his bladder ?

If the tenderness was in the bladder area cystitis may be a possibility. Does he appear to be weeing less and/or straining to wee at all ?

What has his poo output been like during this episode of anorexia ?

Thanks Jane. Wee is normal now but on the first day when she noticed there was no wee. No poos at all :(

As he is bright within himself it may all be due to tooth issues then. Not eating would obviously cause his guts to stop working. With regards to the mucus, is your Mum sure it came from his bum ?

hmmm thats a question. We assumeed so, it was only a small amount. It could not have come from the bun i suppose. He's still bright and binkying even. Thanks Jane
