  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Izzy's hearing

I'm a bit confused about Izzy's hearing. She's been quite jumpy before if she's been facing the other way when I walk up to the hutch, she'll see me then jump and run round the hutch and run in a panic, knocking things over. She's always been quite shy so I put it down to her just being nervous but I thought she would have heard me walking over, Archie always does, although he's more friendly than Izzy so maybe that describes it. A few days ago I went out to see them in the morning and Izzy was facing the other way so she couldn't see me walking towards the hutch, but I was talking to them so I thought she would have heard me. Also, when she's indoors the tv doesn't bother her, whereas Archie won't go too near it because of the volume.

As she is a lop her hearing may not be as acute as that of an uppy eared Rabbit. It would be a good idea to get her ears checked by a Vet as sometimes a build-up of gunk can accumulate deep within the ear canal and reduce hearing even further.
