  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

vaccinating a chronic chest bun

As the title says really Evan is due his booster and my vet is now using the combo vaccine, he's "better" at the moment but he obviously still has the really bad chest (walled of cysts, consolidated lung lobe & snuffles) last time he had the old myxo vax he was very ill not sure if related to the vaccine or not has he is periodically very ill. I'm just wondering what people with poorly buns do should I vaccinate? And if I don't vaccinate him should I vaccinate dana? Would he be at risk from her if I vaccinate

I stopped vaccinating Bluebell as the vac made him so poorly and I could never get him well as such to start with, his infections were ongoing. If I had a snuffle bun who didn't have an active infection, I would consider vacination if my vet was happy.

I always vaccinated his partner though.

our policy has always been to vaccinate, but only healthy animals, never those who are health compromised.

we gave had many admitted to the sanctuary that were taken by their owners to their vet for treatment for various issues, and the vet vaccinated whilst the rabbit was under investigation for other issues. needless to say that quite often they crash as their system tries to cope with the overload, and several have been lost because of it, and some we have pulled thorough but have never got them back to how they were before.

I wouldn't get your lad vaccinated again either- the risk is not worth it
