Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vaccinations after spaying

Hi everyone

Our Holly was spayed 2 weeks ago now and doing very well indeed - the naughtiest, cheekiest but most loving little monkey.

She was abandoned at P@H - they reckon she's about 9 month old but she seems very small for that age - but she might just be a small rabbit. But was fine to be spayed. They obviously don't know if she was ever vaccinated.

Is it okay to vaccinate again within a year from the last vaccination (assuming that if she was vaccinated it was with the combined vaccine) just to be on the safe side?

And if yes - then how long after her spay should we wait? Our other 2 were vaccinated in September so fully covered there.

Personally I'd wait two weeks minimum post spay, preferably a month if you can as its very stressful on the immune system as is vaccination.

I would assume it would be safe to re-vaccinate if I understand that you think there is a small chance she may of been vaccinated 9 months ago but I would ask your vet to see what they think.
