  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I found about 5 today in Bilbo and Maisie's run along with several rather large normal poos, golden brown in colour but covered in white fur (bilbo is white, Maisie's tum and bum is too) and also a mini 3 strong poo necklace. They get lots of hay and readigrass, they only get greens twice a week (rocket and parsley) in small quantities, and an eggcup between two of pellets twice a day. They also have access to lots of fresh watered which is changed three times a day. None of the other buns seem to have any problems. I also looked and Bilbo and Maise's bums. The anus and fur around the anus apart from some hairline thin dark flecks is clean so I can't tell who it is. The dark flecks might be poo stains in which case they might both have the problem.

I have read about giving tea I think to help with this but before I do anything I'd like some reliable advice. What could be causing it and what can I do about it short of taking them to see the vet?

Their diet sounds perfect so as its only happened the once and just a few I'd be inclined to moitor it closely. I presume both buns are eating normally and neither are known to have dental issues?

Sometimes buns wont eat them because the smell funny, maybe due to a a change in food, meds etc. Do you feed meadow hay, is it possible there could of been a different plant or something in there?
