  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How long should i wait between getting a Rabbit and vacinating?
Can i have both the vaccinations done at once or do they have to be done seperetly?

My vet always suggests a week to settle in first. Then first jab, then you have the second two weeks later. They cannot be given together.

If you get your rabbit from a rescue though it may already be vaccinated for you :)

I think it's mainly 1 vaccination now at most vets a combined one of both Myxi/Vhd some vets still have the single ones I believe

I had Ludo done the day after I got him, I'm in a high-risk area and I didn't want to take the risk!

We say to leave them a week to settle in first, partly because this allows the owners to observe their behaviour and health, if a bun has any illness which may not be detected the day it is bought/the next day then we don't want to compromise immunity. Plus it is very stressful for bun moving to a new home, and then being taken to the vets.
