Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Missing teeth!?

Hi guys, my rabbits teeth were looking a bit funny yesterday after he got a bit panicky in my arms and i think he must have chomped down on them really hard. he was doing something really funny with his mouth and i thought it was best to leave him for a minute as it would just be shock, i then checked them and one was hanging from the gum and the other tilted... i check his teeth regularly and they have never been like this...

i wake up today to check them and one has fallen out and the slanted one is left, i decide to call the vet who says that it should be fine as the other one will grow back and should push the current one into allignment... but ive just checked on him and now THEY ARE BOTH GONE!? the vets closed and i will call tomorrow (if they are open on a sunday) but i just need to hear from someone for peace of mind! I am panicking like crazy! Will he still be able to eat, alot of his foods gone but idk if this is because it fell out after eating it or not?

Please let me know if youve had any experience with this thing, im new to bunnies and i love him to bits, need to know he will be fine!

thx x

Desperate for help! so so worried, cant even begin to think about sleep untill i know he will be okay, i may be overreacting but untill i know everythings okay I'm so scared somethings terribles wrong with him! so please anyone! please help!

Rabbits don't need front teeth, there are rabbits with their front teeth removed and the back ones need to be present though, for hay munching.

Call the emergency vets for advice, because I've never heard of teeth randomly falling out.

Is it possible that he has had a knock at all? Maybe jumped from a height higher than normal? Teeth don't normally just fall out.

Personally if I phoned my vet saying my rabbits teeth were falling out and they said not to worry id be looking for a different vet. But regardless I think he needs to see one ASAP.

Rabbits don't need their front teeth as long as they have an understanding human looking out for them. Make sure that he has food he can easily get into his mouth and back to his molars, you need to keep him eating. Is it all the teeth that are gone or just the top ones, or just the lower ones? You will need to watch that any remaining teeth don't grow too long without anything to rub against until the teeth (hopefully) grow back a vet will be able to advise you on what to look for here!

Good luck!

My gorgeous bunny Harry had his front teeth removed when he was really young as he was a stray rabbit and they had rotted really badly. He manages just fine - we chop his veggies quite finely (long and thin if possible) so he can suck them into his mouth and use his back teeth to chew. I also feed him http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=331&pf_id=6139&co=fr as the pellets are easier for him to pick up!

I hope your bun is doing well!

Em :)

When Furby had his dental last week the vet said he has no teeth at the back on one side. He said he has never seen a bun like that. Furby is managing to eat pellets and hay just fine and the vet thinks he is using the other side of his mouth. Furby's teeth are a mess apparently - all over the place. He had one extracted as it was infected but was eating SS as usual this morning before I came to work - probably to get rid of the taste of the Baytril nasty Mummy syringed into his mouth. He is my brave bunster:love:

he had a fall when he was 5/6 months... my sister was holding him and she decided to stand up (i did tell her not too as he can be jumpy) and he scrambled on to her shoulder and flew off of it and nose dived at the floor! he only chipped his two front teeth though and i called the vet and they told me what to do and not to worry as they should grow back and with the right diet they will even out and if they start growing in any funny way then i should go to their "exotic pet dental specialist". however they grew back totally normally and we have never had any issues till now - hes about a year now - i never linked the two together... could the fall have weakened them or something?

ive checked on him this morning, last night i softened his food with some boiling water and then let it sit before giving it to him so it didnt swell in his stomach, his food bowl is mostly empty now, much to my relief! i was mostly worried he wouldn't eat because i know that can become a huge problem! However, he hasnt touched his hay, he has always been abit funny about it and never wanted to eat his hay if ive given him too many treats... but i didnt give him any treats because i thought he might not be able to chew them? I feed him Burgess Excel Junior and Dwarf Tasty Nuggets.

now that its this time of day im going to give the vets a call again as when i last called them it was only one tooth that had come out so i will see what they say now.

i am so worry about him, hes my little angel
