  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Thick Dry Skin near the Nipple area?

tonibun

Wise Old Thumper
Just noticed Truffle has these thick crusty patches on her tummy. Any idea what it could be - never seen anything like it. Have an appointment at the Vets later.

Hard to say without being able to see it
Is the crustiness like scabs ?

Is it painful/itchy ?

A photo would be helpful

Yep, like scabs, a creamy colour. She hasn't been scratching as far as I know and she is eating as normal. Sorry, can't do photos.

Had to take Truffle back today to the Vets. She had a tumour, quite large, the Vet recommended PTS. She said they can come on in a matter of days so I don't feel I have been negligible as she had been eating and looking normal. You never can tell! Truffle had had 2 previous homes and when I picked her up she was filthy and had to have a bottom wash and a trim. She was a beautiful chocolate brown Lionhead.

So sorry it was bad news..did the vet think it was inoperable or malignant? is she a young rabbit? It's just that when I got Pebbles he had a massive abdominal tumor and the vet successfully removed it and I still have Pebs 2 and a half years later. My vet gave me the option to have Pebs PTS.

It was the most horrible thing I have ever seen on a rabbit. It was very extensive not just a lump and the Vet said the prognosis was really bad. I can't imagine she would have survived any operation. It's made me a bit paranoid now because to look at her she seemed bright, ate well; without looking underneath I wouldn't have known anything was wrong.
