  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Stasis help please, eating but no poos.

Thornton's not very well today. Found him half flopped in the litter tray this morning. Wouldn't come over for food and generally really placid. Brought him straight inside, massaged his tummy and syringed bio-lapis solution. He started eating again quite soon, but has not yet passed any poo or wee. He seems generally brighter and is sitting normally and behaving more in character. It has been nearrly 6 hours since we bought him in though and I'm worried about the lack of toileting
He done this once before overnight where tummy rubs and syringing got him to pass some very smelly poos and within a few hours. I just don't know how long to leave him now? I know eating is a good sign, but it really needs to come out the other end....

Obviously take him to a vet if nothing comes out very soon, but in the mean time make sure he's really hydrated as that's really important. Give him some wet greens or cucumber as it's full of water or syringe some water if he's not drinking.

Have just been to check on him and we have 3 good sized poops and he's eaten some more carrot (has eaten kale, grapes, hay plus treat things). No wee yet, but so relieved there;s poo!!!

Maybe he is not pooing now as he is in an unfamiliar environment

Could you put him back where he usually lives and see if he poos there ?
