Opinions needed on my complaint regarding mis-diagnosis.

Once I get the report from my specialist to confirm his exact findings, I'm going to write to the practice manager of the other specialists for my money back which amounts to over £350 and also complain about negligence.

I've also paid out going to other vets for their opinions when I was told she was OK so I'm going to ask for my money back for that too as if they had treated Doughnut properly then I wouldn't have needed to have gone to them.

Do you think I should also ask for compensation? I've ended up taking an extra 4 days holiday, lots of petrol money back and forth but the main reason is I was told to leave Doughnut and she was fine and she has consequently suffered for 3 months and her recovery is going to be a lot longer now. I dread to think what the outcome would have been if I had just left it, probably a slow and very painful death.

I have also lost weight with worry and the stress of it all (not that I'm complaining now as can eat more christmas chocolates!). I wasn't going to name a figure but I'm still so angry about it all and I'll ask the practice manager to look at the videos I have so that hopefully he can educate the practice that they are not normal and no other rabbit has to suffer longer than they should.

Firstly I missed your post saying that you finally had a diognosis, thats great! So happy for your both, and I hope Doughnut picks up and is well on the way to full recovery and binkying around swiftly,

I remember someone else making a complaint to her vet before,

Write a letter of complaint first to the practice(s) you wish to, addressing your complaint, dates, and clearly what you want the outcome of the complaint to be,
The more specific you are with dates and information the better,
If after this you are unhappy with the response/outcome of the complaint you can then write to the college, They have an online form that you can print out,

Good luck, Its so refreshing to see people pushing forward with complaints, to stop this happening to more beloved pets!

Thanks for that. I am certainly going to pursue it further if I don't get any joy. I was made to feel like a hypocondriac for my rabbit!

Yes I went to yet another specialist after 3 months of being told that after 2 days and nights of observation the noises and her throat rubbing was normal by the other one. The original specialists thought the videos were normal but his reaction was oh my god poor little thing. He took bloods which showed a high level of infection and took xrays of her oesophergas and put a camera down there. He found it severely infected and inflamed and she has a fungi infection in her gut. He thinks something cut her internally and since then it has got infected and inflamed for 3 months so her recovery will be over a month and she has been in severe pain. She's now on metacam, veraflox and nystatin and has to go to see him every Friday.
