  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Critical Care

 Some pet practices have it in, but it is expensive. You don't need a prescription. Okay if you need some NOW. Have never seen it in any shops. I am getting mine on line for just over £8 for 141g. Think this is just about the cheapest. Would be interested to know if you find it any cheaper. :)

I normally get it from my vets - but not on prescription. I just ask my vets for some and they normally give me a huge bag and lots of syringes.

Last time I got some I saved a couple of sachets with long dates for just in case. I would maybe try ringing round vets someone might offer you advice where to get some.

Why do animals always need stuff on Sundays and out of hours

I used to buy mine online from ebay, as you can compare lots of prices then. You don't need a prescription but it is a lot more expensive buying from a vets, and you normally have to give them some notice, as if you go in when they haven't got much, they won't sell it to you then, because they will need to keep it for their own inpatients. When I struggled to get some once for a few days, I bought some excel because the pellets are small, soaked them, and then liquidised them, and was able to syringe feed that until I could get the CC. You just have to add in quite a bit of water, but it was better than nothing.

The emergency vet told me to do this once, to avoid having to pay emergency vets fees to just get a packet of CC. It worked reasonably well, but was quite hard to syringe as it was quite thick. However, it's better than nothing!

Hiya Michelle  that's the reason I ordered the CC fine grind from Hayexperts
