The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Experienced vet needed in Midlands U/D Op gone well see post 29

Hi I have a bunny with a tooth abcess who needs a specialist as my vets now tell me they do not do operations on rabbits. They have referred me to Highcroft in Bristol for an exotics specialist but this is several hours away and I wondered if you could recommend anyone nearer to the Midlands.

He is on Flagyl and baytril at the moment and is coping well but long term I need more information on his options.

Thanks for reading.

Sorry I don't no a vet in the midlands but I'm sure when other members read your thread someone will be able to help you I hope your bunny gets better soon

Simon Maddock at the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic in Northampton. Not sure how far away from you he is though but he's got an outstanding reputation as a bunny and piggy vet. I wouldn't trust my small furries to anyone else in the area, althouh Marie (mentioned above) and FHB would get my vote too if I lived closer to them.

Brilliant. Thank you so much for your amazingly quick replies. I am concerned about him but he is well in himself at the moment.
I have him booked with Manor vets tonight.

depending where you are Mrs Marion Ford at Cambridge veterinary Practice in Cambridge is the most fabulous rabbit surgeon I know - simply incredible.

I know it is a long way to go but if there is any way you can get your bunny to Bristol to Highcroft then I would recommend it because we saw Richard Saunders there and he was amazing with Starbuck's abscess. The thoroughness of the diagnostics and then the actual operations (he needed two in the end) was outstanding, and Richard himself is fantastic with the bunnies. We also travelled from the Midlands so I do understand it is a long way to go and that not all rabbits can tolerate a long journey but I just thought I would let you know our experience as we have not looked back since Starbuck recovered from the second op.

But also understand you wanting to find somewhere nearer as well.

Rebecca Rowe at Oaks Veterinary Centre in south Birmingham is a very experienced rabbit dental vet, whether she would be able to help with a dental abscess I don't know but she was fantastic with Kenco's teeth. http://oaksveterinarycentre.co.uk/contact-us

Thank you for your recommendations. They are very much appreciated. Also thank you Helgalush. I have seen that Highcroft in Bristol looks marvellous. I am hopeful that this evenings appointment will go well and will consider again.

I was going to say Simon Maddox as well in Northampton. He is my bunnies vet and would not trust them with anyone else. Fantastic, outstanding reputation and specialises in bunny dental work. Lots of buns get referred to him from all over the country.

I hope that your appointment went well. I just looked at Manor Pets, and look ok but would be concerned that they deal with so many different types of animal, and no mention of them being especially specialist in rabbit dentals, so would I go to them? No. Simon only works with bunnies and piggies, that is specialised and as probably one of the largest areas of his work is dentals, that is the experience I would personally be looking for.

I'm not sure where you are exactly, but there is a fantastic rabbit vet in Evesham.

Andy Barside at de Montfort veterinary surgery in Evesham is wonderful with bunnies. He does specialise in small animals.

I've used the practice for the past 17 years and have never been let down in any way.

I hope your bunny gets some excellent help very soon.:thumb:

Marie at Manor is well respected as a rabbit vet by many on here so I don't think there's too much cause for concern. Glad to see the OPs vet knows their own limitations though and has suggested a referral.

Marie Kubiak is a very very good rabbit vet at ManorVets I wish she was a vet at Barnsley

I would imagine there are very few vets that are able to deal solely with rabbits and guinea pigs so I wouldn't rule out an exotic vet practice just because they also happen to be able to deal with lots of other species as well. Besides which, Marie has always been spoken very highly of, as others have already said. :D

Best of luck, OP. xxx

I remembered a thread a while ago where someone took their rabbit to Marie K for a consultation with regards dental problems and the rabbit had a pulpectomy which is a relatively new dental procedure being used on rabbits, so I specifically thought to recommend her as this was in the same general field. I'm sure there are other vets in the wider area appropriate also but many forum members have been happy to recommend the vet/practice in question. I know I'd be happy to take my rabbits if I was in the locality.

Good luck with the op P&E, hope all goes well.

Jason Burgess at Woodvet Animal Hospital near Gloucester is a rabbit specialist. He's one of the best bunny vets and has treated several of my referalls.
