1st section, this is going to be sand but I haven't got any sand yet and I couldn't wait to move him in! I'm just keeping this part simple for digging in sand and for his wheel. Hopefully he'll toilet here too! I'm dreading him toileting in really awkward places!

Middle section is currently a mixture of carefresh and coconut terrain

And the other end is the burrowing/foraging area filled with layers of carefresh and Timothy hay, I'm getting a hut to put in here but for now iv just put a coconut in!

I added some shredded paper towel for nesting (also had no bedding!) and some other bits and scattered food around... I also added a couple of handfuls of bedding from his old cage so it smells familiar

Thanks  there's a few more things I want to add, I didn't really intend on putting it together, setting it up and moving him in all in one evening but got a bit carried away! He's just ventured into the digging section for the 1st time :) Shame il miss all his exploring when I go to bed! It's funny even tho its huge, he looks so right in there!

Love it love it love it! I wish we had the space for a detolf :( ...I don't care what my bf says, when we move out I'm getting one  Hay looks nice and soft too :thumb: I gave Hammy hay once and spent about 5 minutes making sure it was all soft hay and no sharp bits or any splinter bits .. she ignored it

Thanks everyone, Grayson bless him has taken the bedding from one end all the way to the other and slept behind his wheel  I wish I had been awake to watch him! Going to get a bed today but I have a feeling now he'll stay behind the wheel!
Aly, like I said before I realised that although its big, it'll look sleeker than a big vivarium/cage so it becomes more of a feature in the room rather than an eyesore! My house is only tiny but j already had the expedit unit so it fits perfectly :D I love it! Was a bit of a trial to get it, get it home, get it in the house, unpack and build it BY MYSELF cos I don't like asking for help (well I did get some help in ikea getting it in my car!) oh and don't like waiting for help  But it was all worth it and I'm very proud of myself :D I hope Grayson will live a long and happy life in there and hopefully lots more hamsters after him too :D they'll be queuing up haha

Oh yes Aly also meant to say a out the hay  I was worried at 1st but iv seen it in other set ups online so thought I'd give it a try, I put a bit in his other cage on last clean. Got Timothy hay as its shorter strands, not sure how keen he is its hard when I hardly ever see him awake! I might try other things and c what he likes but it is good for 'filling' as I used a whole pack of carefresh and its not even deep! Hopefully won't need to clean it too often tho if he pees in a good place! Getting the sand today too, just out of interest is chinchilla dust different to sand? They only had dust in PAH so I didn't get it cos I know iv seen sand somewhere else! Daren't add up how much I'm spending! Hope my car passes its MOT tomorro or I'm in trouble

Dust can get in their eyes and really agitate them so sand is what you want :) Bathing sand - http://www.pet-supermarket.co.uk/Products/CN199005/supreme-charlie-chinchilla-sand I sieve Phoebe's and Apollo's sand baths every week to get the pee bits and poop out :D lasts way longer then so saves money:thumb:

If you ever want cheaper substrate, Fitch bedding looks fab. Similar to carefresh but loads cheaper  I'm getting some after Christmas because I'm not liking the megazorb now, it's compacting too quickly and making it difficult for them to dig

This is fitch - it's on eBay for £15.99 inc delivery and you get loads :thumb:

Brill thanks  Tbh I only got carefresh cos I was in PAH (and i did like the natural colour of it :lol:) don't tend to get much from there anymore but was most convenient place to go yesterday.
Off to garden centre today for the rest of the supplies :D

Our garden centre stopped selling sand  we go to The Range now, cheaper there too :thumb:

Do you use kitchen roll? Tubes are always a hit with hamsters ;) Apollo seems to prefer kitchen rolls to toilet roll tubes, I cut a hole for the top/side and he loves it :D also egg boxes are a favourite of both of theirs :D I cut holes in the ends and stick meal worms and things in for them to find:p

The garden centre I go to is near the range so always do both at once :) It's a good one for pet stuff as its often a lot cheaper than other places for exact same stuff. Will be going to the range aswell so will have a look  Iv tried hiding treats in things but he doesn't bother! He is one lazy boy!! Need to get a better food mix as he leaves half the bits in the one iv got and now iv scattered it they'll end up getting left in the cage rather than the bowl :/

Mine love a mix of Harry Hamster, (not the alfalfa stuff or squashed peas/sweetcorn) and the wilkos hamster food (with squashed stuff taken out). Phoebe has dwarf hamster mix too and Apollo has science selective pellets (around 3 or 4 every day as it's not his main food but he eats them straight away) and it's been fab for them :thumb: I introduced them all slowly but it's just finding what they like and what they don't. Apollo loves the pellets but Phoebe hates them

I buy the sand from the range which is usually next to the milk carton like chinchilla sand, but it's in a bag. Exactly the same, checked it and it's £1 cheaper than the boxed stuff :?

Thanks will get some of that sand then :thumb: They have Harry hamster food at the range I think and il look for SS pellets too

Have you tried the hamster mixes from the Rat Rations website, postage is steep but they are a real hit with the hams, the dwarf mix basic is also excellent for hybrid hams who can't have too much sugar.
