  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

so so sad our lop 20 month was put to sleep tonight we are gutted and beating ourselves up too as I guess is human nature did he have too many veg ? did we do or not do something - as I undertstand it tummy /poop probs are a a coomon porblem with bunnies ?
he was an indoor bun and part of our family :(
He wasn’t right last night took to vets this morning said he’d been eating too much and bunged up gave him two injections , seemed bit better , when home tonite he was wheezing – back to vets they said everything swollen pressure on heart on lungs hence wheezing did xray said huge blockage don’t know what ? could be growth, cancer ,some kind of food without surgery or post mortem don’t know – said maybe surgery but then said little chance he wouldn’t survive so they put him to sleep :(:(:(:(:(:(:(

It sounds like you did everything you could. You couldn't give a bunny cancer or a tumour with too many veg. All you could do was love them and take them to the vet as soon as you knew something was wrong, which you did.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I had my bunny pts in October and understand the guilt. But you stopped his suffering- all he knew was 20 months of happiness. Sending you my love.

thank you - tis so sad and so sad seeing dd dh so sad too

he was :( our 1st bunny is it correct that tum probs are often an issue

It depends, some bunnies are more prone to stomach problems than others. For 9 years my first two bunnies had no problems. Both lived to old age and neither of them did.

Now I have three different bunnies and two have had several stomach problems.

I am sorry for your loss

Gastrointestinal problems are a frequent issue for Rabbits. When you feel up to it I would have a read of these links which contain information about Gastroinestinal problems and how to try to avoid them occurring
