  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lymphoma

Thank you Jane - I knew you'd help :D I have seen some of these articles already and they are very 'medical' - I don't know what I expected but just wanted something in simpler terms to try and understand this awful disease a bit more - thank you

I don't know to be honest - my best bunny pal lost her lad on Monday to this - we'd never heard of it, neither had another bunny pal who is very knowledgeable so I wanted to learn more - I guess what causes it and if anything can be done to avoid it happening or help a bunny who has it, is it hereditary etc. Thanks

I am sorry to hear of your friend's loss

There are various types of Lymphoma and I believe it has been suggested that some types may have a genetic link and some may be triggered by a virus. So preventing it's occurrence may not always be possible. I dont think there has been a lot of research on Lymphoma in Rabbits. Although Rabbits are frequently used in trials of chemo protocols for human Lymphomas  Shame they cant at least combine the research to benefit other Rabbits too.

Do you know what type of Lymphoma your friend's Rabbit had ?

He had lots of little lumps (like chicken pox) on his skin under his fur - the vet said he could also feel little lumps internally too - we took him in at 8.30am he passed away at 10.00am after having morphine and collapsing
