Switching Hutches

We have 2 separate pairs and we're thinking about swapping their hutches around. The reason being that the younger pair are in a 2 level, 6ft hutch and the older pair are in a 4 level, 4 ft hutch.

One of the older ones seems to sometimes have trouble with the stairs so that's the reason behind moving them around.

Is there likely to be any reaction from them? We don't really want either pair to start fighting because they've moved territory!

It's possible. You could minimise the risk by scrubbing it out with vinegar but there is always a chance that referred aggression from the scent could affect the bonds.

We swap our ones round all the time - it keeps their interest up - stops them getting bored. For us the scent issue doesnt seem to spark any problems - but then we have so many that scent is everywhere.

I've come up with a bit of a compromise by moving their main living area down from level 4 to level 3. So far they're just a bit disorientated and are still spending a lot of time up on level 4 even although there's just a toilet there and nothing else. Their cardboard box and hay supply is 1 level down.
