Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Prolapsing Rabbit U/D vet update

It's impossible to say if there is or is not a problem.

From what you describe there might be an issue so I would get her examined by your Vet :)

Is it normal for rabbits inside bottom to come out a little bit as they are squeezing poo out?? We're going first thing Monday but I just worry. It's definately not a full prolapse seems to just be skin at the moment.

Yes, it can 'pulse' in and out slightly. But it should not remain out

Sounds like the bum is normal, it kinda winks at you.
Id take her to the vet about the noise though plus it'll put your mind at rest. :)

Oh it doesn't look that bad. A closest picture I can see of it is the picture after the laser surgery. That circling is what her bottom looks like then it goes back in.

There are varying degrees of the problem and how much becomes visible would depend on the exact location of the papilloma

How old is bunny? I have had 2 with rectal prolapses, one had surgery and the other didn't, the surgery didn't work but they both grew out of it and are normal now. We have also seen a fair few at work with prolapses too, they have all been young and all grown out of it. You can try some probiotics like avi pro or biolapis if you want. Try to take a pic to show your vet. Make sure they are very rabbit savvy. The first vet I saw about Parch wanted to pts him for it. Of course it might not be that but sounds very much like my 2 did.

Also might it be worth doing a faecal sample and getting it sent off to rule out things like coccidiosis. Apparently it can cause prolapse, even if they don't have diarrhoea with it. (one of mine came back positive but poos were normal)

Just got back from the vets. They aren't too sure what is happening, her gut feels fine. The vet said her inside bottom seemed a bit swollen so we have steriod cream for that. I have been warned that I need to use gloves as I could grow a beard from the cream

I've got to go back in a week to see if its helped. Also the vet is asking the rabbit expert whether shes seen anything like Bernies bottom before.

 about the beard

Hope Bernie gets on well at the vet.

well luckily bernies bottom was out and talking to the vet. She wasn't sure exactly what the issue was, she hadn't seen anything like it. But there is a different vet who is the specialist in rabbits. The vets are very rabbit savvy. She gave the cream as it looked a bit swollen. After the vet prodded bernie she did some of the biggest Poos I've seen so obviously that helped.

Well I could do with a beard in this cold weather actually. I'm more concerned that bernie already has so much fluff more is not good for my carpets.

Ill see if I can get a picture for you guys. But it comes out and goes away and back again in seconds.

Sounds very much like Williams problem- an anal polyp.
