Cassie's health issues

Piggiesgalore

Mama Doe
I am waiting for Trinity Vets to call me back as I'm trying to get an appointment to take Cassie to see Mark, if he can fit us in, or Richard. As some may remember we lost Dotty, Cassie's sister to suspected "floppy rabbit syndrome" about a month ago. The buns were from an inbreed brother/sister mating and Cassie appeared to be the one with serious health issues. I would value RU's advice about things I should be speaking to Mark about.

A quick potted history. Cassie, a REW lop, was born in April 2012 from a lop brother/sister accidental mating and is an indoor rabbit. She was the "runt" of the litter and at 3 weeks old had an upper respiratory infection. She was put on a course of baytril and recovered and seemed to do well and was of a similar size to her smaller litter mates. When the buns were old enough to leave their mother Dotty and Cassie came to live with us and whilst Dotty appeared to thrive, despite eating me out of house and home, Cassie stayed very small. Both rabbits were given a course of Panacur, Dotty was vaccinated with the combined vaccine and Cassie went back a few weeks later to have her jab as my vet felt she was initially too small. At our first consultation Cass also had to have her insciors burred as they were not growing correctly, this was done again on 2 further occasions and then with the introduction of good hay and eating regime they seem to have remained ok since. In addition to her initial teeth issues, Cassie also has splayed back legs and has very little muscle tone in them, most of the time she is fine, but she can't cope with slippery surfaces and only manages little hops - she does not appear to be in pain.

In the six months or so that she has been here, Cassie has failed to grow properly. Her head looks like that of a small lop (albeit helicopter eared!) but her body is more nethie sized. She has a round, short body, little legs and feet and thick soft white fur - she currently weighs around the 800g mark, so very small. She is fed excel pellets, meadow and specialist hays and veg/herbs and/or fresh foraged food.

Dotty, her sister, showed no sign of illness in the 6 months we had her and then one evening we found her collapsed and despite immediate vet treatment we lost her the same evening. On the advice of our vet we had given the girls a weeks course of Panacur, which was to be followed up by a 28 day course 2 weeks later - the girls came from someone with a lot of rabbits, so the vet wanted to cover all possible infection avenues. This vet visit was prompted by the fact that Cassie was a little unstable and not "hopping" properly, however the next day she was fine so we put it down to "one of those things". On day four of the initial panacur we lost Dotty. Cassie finished her course and has been fine ever since. We are now on day 7 of the 28 day course of Panacure and last night Cass was showing signs of being unable to move properly again. She is still eating well, and trying to get about but is just not right.

I am so sorry this is such a long post, but as you can imagine I am worried sick about my girl. Any RU input would be very gratefully received. Typically Trinity's computer system is currently down so I am waiting for them to call me back with an appointment.

Thanks you

Sandra

OK back from seeing Richard at Trinity.

Initial diagnosis is that Cassie has luxating patellas in both knees  and also other skeletal issues. He thinks she is underweight even though she is a dot of a bunny and eating well. She has been kept in for bloods, they are going to run a full board plus check for EC, although he said that treatment for EC has been thrown up in the air this year as it has come to light that it is a fungal infection and therefore panacur does not help - trouble is, they don't know how else to treat it. He wants to see whether Cassie has any internal issues going on, in addition to her physical ones and I've got to call back after 3pm for an update. It's going to be a long day.

Please, any spare vibes would be very much appreciated for my little girl.

Lots of vibes for Cassie. She certainly sounds like a special little bunny who is getting the best possible care. I hope they manage to get to the bottom of her issues and help her.x.x.

Thanks everyone, your thoughts are much appreciated. It's going to be a long day! Will update when I have more news, now off to clean out some piggies to try to take my mind off things.
