  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Healing vibes for Seeley

Chaplin managed to get hold of a bag of dried red lentils last night, we didn't even realise until this afternoon as we'd both nipped out for a couple of hours and we only realised when we got back they hadn't been downstairs.

I discovered the lentils in their crate, no idea how much they'd eaten but both of them had bloated stomachs. We got them to the vets ASAP and they are both there now, they've both had injections and Seeley is on fluids, I sat massaging Chaplins stomach in the vets while they were sorting Seeley out and she seemed to be doing okay, the hardness has gone so I think it'll pass with her. Always said she had a stomach of steel. They said she' be fine to come home but is obviously staying with Seeley. We've got to check back at 6.

They said as well that they don't want to risk surgery on him because he's so bad and his temp is so low, what should we do, how long should we wait before risking surgery anyway?

How scary  I really don't know, sorry. Hope someone else can advise. Sending lots of vibes for Chaplin and Seeley xx

Sorry, can't help you - in a way I suppose you have to be guided by your vet - but sending vibes.

He's gone into surgery :( they said it was just getting worse, Chaplin is doing well and been nibbling food.
