  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
i adopted a female rabbit, a few days ago, (they mistook her for a male at pet at home), she is 1yrs old, and they said she was neglected by her previous owner, however we don't the extent of the 'neglect' she is healthy, however is slightly jumpy when it comes to play time and being petted, she is booked in to be spayed on the 3rd of December, will it make any difference to her behavior???

It may do. Usually spaying will calm a grumpy hormonal bun down. However try not to expect too much as some buns just never really like to be handled.

Well done on adopting!

thanks, now she has settled in she is coming out of her shell alot more, she is liking and laying down alot more while being petted :)

You'll need to prove to her that you are trustworthy and then she is likely to start to bond with you more, but different rabbits have different standards of what trustworthy means to them.

There's an article on my website (link in my sig- Flash's Place), under the Rabbit Care Information section called 'Bonding with your Bunny' which might be worth a read.
