lawathome

New Kit
hi i am new to this so here goes...

my rabbit as not eaten for few days and took little bites here and there (same with water) so i said to my self that he is okay

after a couples day he wasn't eating anything and today i took him to the vets and she look at him and try to find the cause of his cold as that what i said to her.

so she look and done everything as usual (e.g. check him all over), and finally look in his mouth after. she said the i cant see anything could be blood might be in his mouth so i got worried and started to shaking.

so she took some cotton bud and put in his mouth i and the vet (she) saw blood...

she have gave me some pain killer for him to one a day in the evening...

it might something near his teeth or gum that could be bleeding... can anyone help me or advise me or is their i could do more or less .... plz need someone to talk or chat to i feel like crying, no support
:( willing to answer any question too

btw i got med (painkiller), recovery food and i have to take to RSPCA for them to check his mouth

Hi! and welcome to the forum:)

Im so sorry to hear this....it might be that he has cut his cheek....lets hope its not worse.
He could have cut his cheek on some hay or twigs perhaps? or , lets hope not - it might be teeth problems or an ulcer....

Where abouts are you?
Its abit strange that your vet was not able to check him over properly...you need to get a rabbit savvy vet asap if possiable...rabbits are considered as exotics and an experienced vet will be essential for his care.

Im not hugely experience but didnt want to read & run...

Could you list what meds you have for him?

Rabbits are grazers and need to graze all the time...so munching on hay is hugely important...their teeth never stop growing - so its essential they have alot of good quality hay, along with apple branches, hawthorn etc to chew on...this helps keep their teeth worn down and in good condition....if they dont have this diet...their teeth can grow too long and curl...causing huge problems.
If rabbits stop eating...its a huge concern...they are prey animals and will usually only show illness when they are really not well....as they tend to hide illness - its part of their instincts...so noticing any changes to a rabbits behaviour can be a sign of something.

Apolagies if you already know this..just thinking of what it might be.

Has he eaten since youve given the painkiller meds?
Has he pooped at all?
has he drunk anything?

Its important that he is still pooping...its a sign of gut movement - this is important. No poops and its an emergency vet visit. Rabbits can go into stasis if not eating.

Sending huge get well vibes for your bunny. xxx

thank you for helping me in time of need

i live in Finsbury Park, London

he is only take one painkiller and one recovery food (soup) their are :

1. Meloxidyl 1.5mg/ml (once daily in the evening)
2. supreme science recovery (white & blue packet)

pleases dont "Apolagies" anything you say and write is always useful i didn't know "apple branches and hawthorn" :)

i have been feeding him every 2 hours (recovery "soup") and every 1 hour of water

he is now pooped from 3am -/+ 10 mins ~ smell of med and the food i have feeding him (recovery "soup") it gone little harder since i saw it (been checking on him every hour) it was very soft and running from yesterday (monday)

and thank you for the good vibes i think its working :)

btw still no pee coming up to 24hrs now

It would appear probable that your rabbit has some kind of dental problem (although obviously this is only going on what the vet has said). This is a very urgent situation and I am surprised the vet has only given the two medicines you list.

Usually there would be gut (stomach) motility drugs to get the gut working again, as well as pain killers, as well as emergency dental treatment. Without a combination of these the situation will only temprorarily resolve itself and then get a lot worse as the CAUSE has not been tackled

I see you are in London and strongly recommend that you start a thread on here asking for the contact details of a rabbit-knowleadgeable vet in your area (do you have transport??).

Please do this asap

PS welcome to the forum!

no i dont have my own transport but i am going to see the "Harmsworth Memorial Animal Hospital" RSPCA in the next few mins

I hope they can help you -.

I cannot overemphasise how different rabbit veterinary medicine is to the general cats/dogs medicine - vets who specialise in rabbits tend to have specialist training in 'exotics' (which is what rabbits come under as they have such a different digestive system and dental issues to cats and dogs).

generally speaking vets in their training (degree and upwards to final qualification) get about 2 days on rabbits in the whole of their training - and it is up to them otherwise whether they then take on more rabbit training to specialise.

If you think that they still havn't pinpointed the issue or resolved it then please come on again!!

And come back anyway to tell us what happened and how your bun is!!!

Best of luck at the vets.

I hope that they are able to help your bunny.

Please keep us updated.

Also welcome to RU.

hi!

Hows your bunny doing?
whats his name?

Id def start a thread asking for rabbit savvy vets near Finsbury Park. Im sure youll find a better vet;)

sending huge vibes..

Ive pm you! xxx

Hope bun is ok. Does sound very much like a tooth problem.

I'm sure people on here will be able to find you a rabbit savvy vet near you. Having an experienced rabbit vet is so important as our buns can be very complex. If it does turn out to be spurs on the teeth, this is usually straight forward for a good vet to sort and get bunny back to health. Always feel free to ask questions on here, everyone is here to help

hiya all... just an update

I took him to the RSPCA place took 10 Mins to registration him,
then a waited up to an 1 hour (I think),
then the vet doc saw him and said their is lot of bleeding and need to stay over night and up-to 2/3 day with them,
she the vet doc said few things and i ask many questions as i can because its my first time to such things and im all new to all this (just like a human, I asked like a family member in hosp about the loved one)

Digestive system: I managed to make it stable before i took him... it got stable around 2-3 am (wednesday morning) took him around 9 am-8.30ish
Dental : might more then his tooth and might have 3-4 cuts (as the what the doc vet said)
Travel: By foot ~ its about 30-40 mins walk from where I live (Victoria Road to Harmsworth Memorial Animal Hospital ~ RSPCA)

now: they (RSPCA) nurse said to call at 4 pm-5ish to find out what happen or happening when i called the guy said that he has gone under (explorer & sugary) so now the wait game start... so worried what they will say :(

while-i-wait: would like any replies, support and advice of any after care, anything so i know before hand...

just want to say big thank you so so much for your welcomes, replies, support and advice i really do mean from my big heart...

It sounds as though the RSPCA vet was much more thorough than your original vet.

I hope your bun (name?) come through the surgery well . . you will need to keep him WARM and well cared for when he comes home. You may need to very carefully syringe feed and also give medicines.

The vet will probably give a painkiller, perhaps an atibiotic and also gut motility drugs (depending on what they find).

I suggest that you now re-title your thread (or start a new one) so people will realise that its about a bunny with a problem. (not that many will realise that from the thread title 'Hi'!)

Yu will get more replies with a thread title like 'Help needed with newly poorly bun' or 'Bun in for dental work - need help' or some such!

Good Luck!

Just wanted to say that I hope your rabbit will be ok. Personally, I take a fair few of my rescues to the Harmsworth RSPCA over the last couple of years (I live about an hour away) and they've always been BRILLIANT with my rabbits, including some with very complicated medical problems. Just thought you might like to know that to give you a bit of confidence in the vets there. The nurses are lovely too, a lot of them like to snuggle inpatient bunnies! :D

I just wanted to send lots of get well vibes for your bunny, I hope the vets can make him better  what's his name? X

thank you parsnipbun, louise and Gus, martlou, silverrabbit and ripminnie

I call them at 8 pm and their put me on hold even since then the line is busy trying every hour to call them "always busy" line
still no update as the guy said ill go and check kept me on hold for more than 40 mins and i now cant get to speak of any of them ... hmmm
got no update of "Nve" :( and now been 4 hours.

rabbit name: "Nve" (English name) But he has full indian saying name with our family surname (in English) goes "small ghost singha" (nearest i can get to English words) sound different in indian tho

parsnipbun or any else can you help me ....how do i get re-title my thread

If you go to the first post, your original one and press edit bottom right, one of the options you can change is the title. :D

Hope you get somewhere with the vets soon :(

Sending lots of well wishes for Nve, i hope he recovers well. I'm sure if there was a problem the vets would get in touch. Hopefully you can get an update in the morning xx
